We are excited to announce that at this month’s General Meeting, we’ll have the privilege of hosting Mike Casella, a distinguished board member of the Buffalo Harbor Museum. Mike, a retired test specialist from General Motors with an impressive 46 years of service, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our gathering.
During his tenure, Mike has been deeply involved with the Buffalo River History Tours and has dedicated 15 years to delivering captivating presentations like the one he’ll be sharing with us. His topic, “Building the Buffalo Harbor and the Growth of Buffalo,” promises to be an enlightening journey through our city’s rich harbor history and its remarkable evolution over the years.
So, let’s all sit back, relax, and enjoy as Mike takes us on a fascinating exploration of Buffalo’s maritime heritage.

Red Jacket and Grady White have emerged from their winter slumber!!
|
The covers have been removed from Red Jacket and GW this past week and we expect to start work on them very soon. Both boats wintered well, however, Red Jacket sustained minor damage to an antenna and the winter cover has a tear along the roof. All damages will be easily repaired.
We are on track to get them both in the water during the last couple weeks in April and will be having the work party to dress them up on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The rain date or follow up date of Saturday, April 20, 2024. Please save the date and come help your club in the spring commissioning work party. BYOB but the pizza will be on me.

Marks Management Committee & Wednesday Night Volunteers Needed!!!
|
As many of you know, proper maintenance, repair, and placement of the permanent marks needs to happen each year. We are looking for individuals who can help the club with this task. This job has typically been done by one person who held the position for multiple years and can be somewhat labor intensive in the past. This year, with the idea that having many hands will make the job easier, I would like to form a committee of at least 2 – 3 people to help with the marks. Once in place, the committee will be responsible for caring for the marks each year or finding new members to help out. If you have not helped your club in the past, then this is a great opportunity to step up and get involved. You will not have to miss any racing throughout the summer to participate with the marks.
In addition to the Mark Management Committee, we still need about three volunteers for the Wednesday Night Race Committee. Without a reliable crew for Tuesday Wednesday nights, we would not have the amazing racing program throughout the summer so please consider donating your time. If you want information about how to help, please feel free to ask any of the current BHSC volunteers or you can e-mail me at ViceCommodore@BuffaloHarborSailingClub.org or Race Director Tom Lewin at racedirector@buffaloharborsailingclub.org.
